Phillip HOWe | Contemporary Artist

“My work begins where words fall away, in the rhythms, scars and stories held in the land, water
and sky.”

Phillip HOWe works across sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, installation and public art. His practice unfolds through a lifelong relationship with Country; where nature is both teacher and collaborator, shaping form, rhythm
and meaning.

Working with reclaimed materials and deep observation, HOWe creates bold sculptural forms and vibrant visual languages that explore connection, resilience and the quiet dialogue between land, lineage and spirit. Each work invites viewers to pause, sense, and find their own way of belonging.

Ashes & Bones | Phillip HOWe & Gautam Jhanjee

🗓️20 August – 13 September 2026

📍 Montsalvat – Residents Gallery, Eltham

🥂 Opening Night: Friday 21 August | 6:00–8:00pm

Ashes & Bones brings together the work of Phillip HOWe and Gautam Jhanjee in a contemplative exhibition centred on life, death and renewal.

Through sculpture, painting and drawing, the artists create a dialogue between First Peoples knowledge, Eastern philosophies and shared human experience. Rather than viewing death as an ending, the exhibition reflects the enduring cycles that connect spirit, memory and place.

HOWe's work is shaped by a deep connection with Country, where land, lineage and ancestral presence intertwine. It invites contemplation of the enduring connections that bind people, place and memory. Jhanjee's paintings draw upon mythology, sacred imagery and symbolic traditions that transcend time and culture.

Together, Ashes & Bones invites quiet reflection, revealing that what returns to the earth is never truly lost, but continues through memory, transformation and the enduring cycle of life.
